Georgi and Edward King

at La Borde Neuve

Having visited France many times on holiday, in 2010 we decided to sell up in the UK and move here full time.  We looked all over France and in the end decided that this area ticked all the boxes.  No endemic winds such as the Mistral or the Tramontane, lots of sunshine but still lush green countryside, beautiful architecture, wonderful food and wine, and the thriving town of Cahors nearby.

La Borde Neuve

In true tradition we both fell in love with this place the first time we saw it. Only we didn't really want to embark on a major restoration so we carried on looking until we realised we weren't going to find anything we liked as much, or that was in such a good position.  So....  two years later we were ready to open our door to guests.  We have renovated the house primarily with our family in mind, but we love entertaining so the idea of chambres d'hotes seemed a natural step.

For us the house is perfectly situated, in a beautiful setting but close to Cahors, with all that it offers and the market town of Montcuq.  We believe it also has a very friendly feel and we hope you will find this too.

Food & Wine

We both love food and wine, and this was one of the reasons for choosing France as our new home.  Georgi spent 20 years in England as a professional cook, doing dinner parties, canapes for large gatherings, as well as making speciality bakes such as biscotti, panforte and her own flavoured breads.

With the local markets and vineyards in this area, we now tend to shop much more according to the seasons than we did in the UK, often buying direct from the producer.  We intend to build on our existing skills and hopefully share our enthusiasm for delicious food with our guests.

Art

Edward's first career was as a director of a major London fine art establishment, buying and selling art.  After 17 years he moved into the public museum world where he was director of a charitable trust running an art gallery, an Arts & Crafts house and two museums.

Having worked on exhibitions with many of the UK's leading artists from Lucian Freud to Bridget Riley, he has now embarked on a third career as a professional artist.  A studio has been created in the house and Edward is now painting and drawing full time.
